My educational background
My teaching career began late in my 30s when I decided to pursue my long-held ambition of working with children. I have always loved being around tamariki and, after having my own children, decided it was the right time. I am a primary trained classroom teacher with 15 years of teaching experience and have taught across a variety of learning levels within primary schools in the South Christchurch area. I have been a mentor teacher supporting provisionally registered teachers in their early stages of classroom teaching, as well as guiding student teachers from first to third years of training.
I held the position of Performing Arts/Arts Lead teacher for nearly 10 years where I was able to grow and utilise my skills and passion for singing and teaching choir. I was involved as a Music Lead Teacher for the Kahukura Cluster schools and was part of organising and running the South Christchurch Schools Music Festival which later became the Kahukura Schools Music Festival.
In 2021 I completed my Master of Education endorsed in Inclusive and Special Education with the view to working in a supporting role such as RTLB.

My interests outside of work
Family is very important to me and I love spending time with my two (grown up) sons, my husband and extended family. Whether it’s chilling at home, trips away in the caravan, or large family gatherings, I love it all. I have two miniature schnauzers that I adore and can’t get enough of their cuddles!
I enjoy being creative and have a few hobbies that I pursue. My current passion is ceramics/pottery, particularly creating ceramic giftware and jewellery. I have attended a couple of markets with my creations and would like to do this more.
I also love to bake and especially enjoy creating delicious dishes for those large family gatherings.
My educational passions and superpowers
I am a highly collaborative practitioner and value building strong relationships with ākonga, whānau and kaiako. As RTLB, I want to support and empower ākonga to be the best that they can be and reach their full potential. My interest and study in inclusive education has allowed me to further develop my skills to positively impact children’s social, emotional and learning experiences at school.
