My educational background
From a young age, I immersed myself in working with children and whānau. From coaching sports teams, working as a reliever in Early Childhood Centres, volunteering as a Learning Assistant, teaching in my own akomanga whilst leading other kaiako and now having the experience of being an RTLB. I have just come back to Ōtautahi after spending the last six years teaching and being an RTLB in Tāmaki Makaurau
My interests outside of work
I love to get outside and go on walks with my two fur-babies. A big part of moving back to Ōtautahi is to be closer to whānau, so my husband and I try to get as much quality family time with everyone as we can. I read and listen to music or audiobooks to unwind. Cooking is super relaxing for me and I enjoy making all sorts of new dishes (the cleaning dishes part, not so much!).
My educational passions and superpowers
My aim is to target ākonga to intrinsically improve their attitudes towards learning and create a positive environment, where they feel safe to take risks. All behaviour is a form of communication. Our tamariki are not the problem, they are having a problem. We work together to minimise the problem and remove barriers to learning. An area of special interest to me is social and emotional well-being. Ākonga need to be in a space where they are physically and mentally ready to learn. Together with RTLB kaiako, ākonga and whānau are equipped with the tools/strategies to help facilitate this.
