My educational background
My first experiences working with vulnerable young people began when I started my role as a residential childcare worker at Cholmondeley Children’s home in 1998.  It was during this time I developed a special interest in the impact of adverse childhood experiences on behaviour and learning.  I then began my teaching journey at Mairehau High School as a behaviour support teacher, working closely with disaffected ākonga who struggled within a mainstream setting.  I knew at this early stage that I wanted to be an RTLB after developing a close relationship with our cluster team based at our school.  These two roles shaped the rest of my career.  In 2005 I travelled to London for six months on my O.E and returned thirteen years later.  During my time in London I managed onsite behaviour and learning provisions in large secondary settings for ten years and then worked as an Assistant Headteacher in a secure educational facility for young offenders unable to attend mainstream settings due to their challenging behaviour.
I have earned a Bachelor of Education (Education and Management), a Diploma of Teaching and Learning, the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination and a Post graduate Diploma of Specialist Teaching - endorsed in Learning and Behaviour.
My educational passions and superpowers
I am passionate about creating positive relationships - between ākonga, kaiako, kura and whānau and between myself and all of the professionals I work with as an RTLB. I respect the privilege of my role and do everything in my power to improve outcomes for vulnerable ākonga who struggle to manage their behaviour. My lens as an educator is just as pivotal in my RTLB role as my lens as a parent. I passionately advocate for trauma-informed polices to be visible in every kura so all of my collaborators understand the wide-ranging
impact that trauma can have on children, their development, their wellbeing, and their ability to succeed and thrive at school.
Liaison Schools: Rolleston College, Lincoln High School
My interests outside of work
I love being anywhere outdoors with my son, watching him enjoy nature and the opportunities we have at our back door in New Zealand.  It has been such a contrast for him growing up in London for four years and then returning to live here - I will never tire of seeing him enjoy it!  I have an addiction to houseplants and tropical fish - which is becoming increasingly obvious to any visitor to our home!
